Events in Gran Canaria in September 2026

The Craft Fair celebrates its first year. The Feria de Artesanía de Santa Brígida returns this Saturday, September 5, to the Prque Municipal with a wide and varied selection of creations and with a special celebration: it has been a year since this monthly gathering moved to the municipal park, where every first Saturday of the month it becomes a showcase of artisanal talent and traditional trades. On this anniversary, a basket of craft products will be raffled among attendees. A total of fifteen stalls will participate in this event, which from 10:00 to 14:00 hours will allow residents and visitors to discover handmade pieces crafted with special attention to detail. Organized by the Ayuntamiento de Santa Brígida, through the Concejalía de Comercio, Desarrollo Rural y Mercados Municipales, led by Carmen Juez, the initiative reaffirms its commitment to local commerce and to craftsmanship as a driver of economic and cultural dynamism, in a space where tradition and innovation naturally coexist.

The Agüimes uprising of 1708 – Production: Teatro La República. A theatrical and musical work by Faneque Hernández (texts) and Mingo Quintana (music) that recalls and commemorates the Agüimes uprising of 1708. This episode tells how the villagers rose up against the bishop's attempt to requisition the grain stored in the communal granary, reserved for famine or plague emergencies, to make private deals by selling it at a high price in Tenerife, in complicity with Francisco Amoreto, the Lord of Vega Grande. The mutineers unite to prevent looting and drive the camel caravan and its mule drivers out of the Lordship. From here a judicial process begins to punish the rebellious neighbors who will dream the sleep of the righteous for lack of prosecuting witnesses. Ten years later, in 1718, similar events, this time for the defense of Sardina lands, will repeat with similar protagonists: on one side the people of Agüimes in coalition, on the other, the Lord of Vega Grande.

Santa Brígida, next stop on September 11 and 12: Isla de Timple: alma sonora of Gran Canaria, an itinerant project led by Germán López that is visiting the island municipalities with concerts, encounters and educational activities around the most representative instrument of Canarian music. The initiative aims to value the timple both from its traditional aspect and its contemporary evolution, under an exceptional guide: the timplist Germán López, one of the figures in the instrument’s international projection thanks to his interpretive excellence and his ability to fuse different musical genres. Program: On September 11 at 19:00, the Biblioteca Municipal hosts the meeting Historia y futuro del timple, a space for dialogue about the evolution, challenges and possibilities of the instrument, with Germán López and David Díaz in collaboration with la Asociación Canaria del Timple. As the program’s closing, on September 12 at 20:00, the Centro Cultural de la Villa will be the stage for the concert Maridaje, a show led by timplists from different generations who will establish a musical dialogue between tradition and modernity, accompanied at the piano by Augusto Báez. Participants: Germán López, Augusto Báez, David Díaz and Ana Falcón. Collaboration with the Concejalía de Cultura of the Ayuntamiento de Santa Brígida, in line with strategic lines promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria for the promotion of culture and insular identity. Tickets to both events are free.

The Escuela de Música Banda de Santa Brígida has announced the opening of enrollment for the upcoming academic year 2026-2027. This cultural and educational program aims to foster love for music in the municipality, offering residents the opportunity to learn from scratch or improve skills across a wide variety of musical instruments. The activities will take place at Camino al Tejar, s/n (near CEIP Lola Massieu, La Angostura).
